The Great Bend High School softball team made short work of Liberal — again.
For the third time this season, the Lady Panthers enacted the run rule in beating the Lady Redskins, this time a 10-0 win in the fifth inning of a Class 5A regional tournament semifinal game.
“We came out and we asked our girls to be focused,” GBHS head coach Carrie Minton said. “We can’t overlook anyone and one game at a time, and the girls’ did that. I was really proud of them for that.”
Great Bend got started in the bottom of the second.
Braylin Bretz, who pitched all five innings for the Lady Panthers, started with a ground-rule double and scored on a Kelsie Doll single. Kaylie Doll drove in her sister with a double.
Bretz threw a no-hitter, walking one batter. She had four strikeouts.
“Braylin threw a great game,” Minton said. “She threw a no-hitter. I think she faced 16 batters. We can’t ask for a better pitching performance.”
Samantha Dreiling, who walked her first three times at the plate, scored in the third inning on a passed ball.
McKenna Mauler had an RBI single, and Dakota Sanders had an RBI double in the fourth.
Kelsie Doll hit an RBI single and scored on a passed ball in the fifth. Dreiling drove in a run, Stephanie Morrison scored on an error and Sanders ended the game by the run rule with an RBI double.
“That’s what the girls have done all year long is step up and put the ball in play,” Minton said. “They did a good job in the game.”
