Hillsboro baseball rolls past Cardinals

HOISINGTON — Hillsboro’s Jacob Funk drove in three runs as the Trojans rolled past Hoisington 15-2 in a Central Kansas League baseball game. The second game was postponed because of weather.
Hoisington (2-3) plays at Smoky Valley Monday. Hillsboro (3-4) plays at Pratt April 20.
HILLSBORO 15, HOISINGTON 2 (G1) – Hoisington’s Trey Byers scored on Braxton Donovan’s sacrifice fly. Byers’ single scored Isaac Prosser in the fifth inning. Philip Donecker singled twice and Jerred Bieberle, Jacob Specht, Holt Hanzlick and Derek Boxberger had base hits.
Cardinal right fielder Donecker tossed to third baseman Derek Boxberger to throw out baserunner Cole Kaufman for a second-inning double play.
Hillsboro scored three runs in the first three innings for an easy victory. Jorge Hanschu and Funk drove home runs and Hanschu scored on a stolen base for a 3-0 lead. Hanschu, Jacob Funk and Jack Parks delivered second-inning RBIs. Brooks Gardner doubled home two runs and Elliott had a third-inning RBI.
Elliott and Funk added runs batted home in the fourth and fifth innings. Kaden Kleiner’s RBI was followed by Elliott, Kleiner and Caleb Potucek scoring on sixth-inning wild pitches.
