Lady Cards beat Phillipsburg

HOISINGTON — A 27-point second quarter put plenty of distance between the Hoisington High School girls’ basketball team and Phillipsburg in the first round of a Class 3A sub-state game on Tuesday night at the Hoisington Activity Center.
The Lady Cardinals coasted to a 57-38 win, getting a game-high 15 points from Rylie Koester.
She went 9-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Mykela Riedl added 10 points for Hoisington (11-10), which will play in a semifinal game on Thursday.

Colby 54, Larned 11
COLBY — Having just one practice since their last game on Feb. 19, the Larned Lady Indians struggled in a 4A sub-state game against Colby.
Larned, which finished the season with a 4-17 record, only managed six points in the first half.
Shay Shepherd sank a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Lady Indians with six points.
Maci Perez added four points for Larned.

BOYS
Pratt 52, Larned 46
PRATT — Trailing by seven points at halftime, Larned could not make up the difference against Pratt in a first-round 4A sub-state game.
Brayden Smith led the Indians (6-15) with 10 points.
Pratt’s Skylar Dean finished with 18 points, sinking 4 3-pointers.
Garrett Smith added four treys for the Greenbacks, scoring 13 points.

Hoisington 73,
Norton 30
HOISINGTON — Leading 20-2 after eight minutes, Hoisington steamed past Norton.
Cardinals 6-foot-8 center Cody Stetler showed he was back to form after a foot injury, finishing with a team-leading 21 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Jacob Warnken scored 14 points, and Anthony Broeder added 13 points and seven boards for the Cardinals (17-4).
