LAKIN — The Hoisington High School volleyball team’s season ended Saturday with a loss to Goodland in a three-game match at the Class 3A sub-state tournament.
The Lady Cardinals finished with a 30-6 record.
Goodland ousted the Lady Cards 26-24, 18-25, 25-21. Hoisington had to watch as Goodland upset No. 1 seed Southwestern Heights (Kismet), 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, to advance into the Class 3A state tournament.
“I know there is a lot of luck involved in getting to state and I know every team at sub-state is feeling lots of pressure,” Hoisington head coach Tina Johnson said. “It is just hard. I hurt for the girls. They have worked their tails off.”
Even though the Lady Cardinals have to say goodbye to the 2010 season, they will only lose senior Shelby Bownes.
Bownes made the most of her final match.
“Senior Shelby Bownes had her best match of the season as she came in off the bench,” Johnson said. “Shelby was 7-for-7, with three aces serving. Shelby has great hands. She had 11 assists.”
