RUSSELL — The Hoisington High School girls' golf team finished third at a Class 3-1A regional tournament at the Russell Municipal Golf Course.
The Lady Cardinals were led by Ashton Nickelson, who shot a 104 for fifth place.
“She went into the tournament with the best handicap of anyone,” Hoisington head coach Bruce Cooper said. “She just struggled a little bit here and there. She had a couple three-putts.”
Nickelson finished eighth at the state tournament last year.
The third-place finish qualifies Hoisington for the 3-1A state tournament for the fifth straight year.
This year, the tournament will be held in Cheney on Monday at the Cherry Oaks Golf Course.
The Lady Cardinals finished as runners-up last season.
Russell beat Cheney in a tiebreaker for the regional title after both teams finished with 418.
