Lady Eagles edge Victoria in Hoisington tourney

HOISINGTON — The Ellinwood High School girls’ basketball team opened the second day of the Hoisington Winter Jam on Tuesday with a come-from-behind 37-35 win over Victoria.
Trailing by nine at the half, the Lady Eagles outscored Victoria 26-15 to advance to the next round and send Victoria to the consolation bracket.
Freshman Rachel Doll finished with a team-leading 11 points, scoring nine in the final eight minutes.
Brooke Panning and Lindsay Zink each added seven points for Ellinwood (3-7).
Audra Nowak led the Lady Knights with 13 points. Kristin Huser added 12.

Hoisington 46, Ellsworth 16
HOISINGTON — Hoisington leaped ahead to a 24-4 lead at halftime in its opening-round win over Ellsworth at the Hoisington Winter Jam.
The Lady Cardinals (8-1) were led by Mallory Flagor, who finished with 14 points.
Savannah Rose added 12 points for Hoisington.
Halle Connally led Ellsworth with eight points.

BOYS
Nickerson 73, St. John 62

ST. JOHN — Quintin Crandall scored 31 points to lead Nickerson over St. John at the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic.
St. John had a 10-6 lead after the first quarter, but Nickerson responded with 19 points in the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead.
The Tigers (6-4) were led by Spencer Nusser, who scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.
St. John freshman Dean Wade added 12 points.

Victoria 44,
Ellinwood 38

HOISINGTON — The Victoria boys took a small lead to start the game, and Ellinwood was unable to make up ground in the loss at the Hoisington Winter Jam.
The Eagles trailed 19-15 at halftime.
Victoria was led by Corey Dinkel, who scored a game-high 24 points.
Ellinwood (4-6) was led by Kyle Blakeslee, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ian Goering added nine points.
The Eagles shot 23 percent from the field.

Medicine Lodge 61, Larned 58
ST. JOHN — Bryan Hellman scored 24 points and Medicine Lodge beat Larned in the opening round of the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic.
Larned’s Jahman Hill evened the odds for the Indians, scoring 24 points as well.
Cameron Brown added 11 points for Larned.
The Indians will face host St. John on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
