Lady Eagles win team title at Class 2A regional meet

HERINGTON — The Ellinwood High School girls’ track and field team won a Class 2A regional championship on Friday, scoring 93 points to top Berean Academy, which finished with 88.
The Eagles, boosted by a pair of regional titles from Pedro Montoya, who won the 1,600-meter and 3,200 runs, finished in second place with 85 points. Berean Academy finished in first with 95.
Along with winning a girls’ title, Ellinwood qualified several entries for the Class 6-1A state track and field championships, which is set for Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.
Montoya turned in top times of 4:33.37 in the 1,600 and 9:49.22 in the 3,200.
Patrick Ringering also won a regional title, recording a time of 41.06 in the 300 hurdles.
Kyle Oglesbee punched his ticket for the state meet with a pair of second-place finishes — the 400 dash and the 800 run.
Morgan Feemster finished third in the 3,200 run.
The Eagles qualified a pair of relay teams (4x400 and 4x800), as well as Devin Ramsey in the 110 hurdles and Kaleb Schartz in the pole vault.
The Lady Eagles were led by first-place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x800 relays. Their 4x400 relay team finished fourth to also qualify for the state meet.
Ellinwood also had eight girls qualify in individual events — Sophie Hayes (200 dash), Chelsea Day (200 dash), Brooke Panning (400 dash), McKenna Rugan (800 run), Abbie Reichuber (1,600 run), Jenna Snell (3,200 run), Amanda Tucker (discus) and Rebecca Elsen (javelin).

Hoffman wins trio of
 regional titles for Cougars
HAYS — Jordan Hoffman of Otis-Bison rushed past the competition for wins in the 100, 200 and 400 dashes during a 1A regional meet at Fort Hays State University on Friday.
Hoffman won the 100 with a time of 11.15, the 200 at 32.14 and clocked in at 49.78 in the 400.
He joins Hannah Bannister, who finished third in the 3,200 run, in representing Otis-Bison at the state track meet.

Lady Oilers capture
two individual regional titles
HERINGTON — Breanna Holmes and Maddie Demel led the Central Plains Lady Oilers at a 2A regional meet.
Holmes won the triple jump, leading a trio of Central Plains state qualifiers in the event with a distance of 34-8 1/2.
Maddie Demel won the discus with a heave of 112-11, and finished third in the shot put to qualify for the state meet in a pair of events.
Julie Demel took second, and Taylor Rolfs finished fourth in the triple jump.

Sanders shares regional title in pole vault
HOLCOMB — Hoisington’s Lexi Sanders tied for a 3A regional title in the pole vault on Friday.
She cleared 10-0, as did Bailey Ambrosier of Norton.  
Sanders led five individuals and two relays to qualify for the Lady Cardinals.
Abbi Demel qualified in the 300 hurdles, Jordin Greer advanced in the high jump, Rylie Koester moves on in the 1,600 run and Emily Hammond qualified in the 100 dash.
Hoisington will also bring a 4x100 relay team and a 4x400 relay team.
The Cardinals will be represented at the state meet by Anthony Broeder, Brandon Ball and Jacob Durrett.
Broeder finished second in the discus and third in the shot put.
Ball claimed second in the pole vault, and Jacob Durrett finished third in the 300 hurdles.

Ochs leads
qualifiers for Larned
ANDALE — Tahje Ochs of Larned qualified for the state meet in three events during a 4A regional meet.
She finished third in the 100 dash, long jump and triple jump.
Delainee Gordon punched her ticket in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.
The Lady Indians will also bring a 4x100 relay team and a 4x800 relay team.
