LYONS — Great Bend High School head tennis coach Shannon Schartz always has an extra meet on his schedule.
He likes to get some of the younger kids on the team a chance to compete.
That chance came in the season-opening match at Lyons on Thursday evening.
“We always take the younger group to Lyons,” Schartz said. “They looked good. We didn’t win any matches, but what I did see was a lot of improvement, which is what we wanted to see.”
Maria Ramirez was Great Bend’s No. 1 singles player, who rallied from an early deficit to win four games against Lyons but couldn’t complete the win.
Allison Muth competed in the No. 2 singles division for the Lady Panthers. She won three games.
Morgan McIntosh and Rachel Carpenter combined as Great Bend’s No. 1 doubles team, winning four games in three matches.
Misty Wittig and Jordan Ewing was Great Bend’s No. 2 doubles duo, winning five games.
