GARDEN CITY — The Great Bend High School girls’ tennis team finished third at the Garden City Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Panthers finished with 48 points, narrowly missing first place as Pratt and Maize South tied with 50 points with Pratt winning the head-to-head tiebreaker.
“Overall, we played really well,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Both singles players played outstanding. Our No. 1 doubles played well at times, and then didn’t play well at times. They were kind of up and down.
“Our No. 2 doubles played well, but it would’ve been nice to win one more match. We were one away from first place.”
Morgan Francis led the way, winning the No. 2 singles competition. She only lost one game, going 3-0 on the day.
Macy Moyers finished third in No. 1 singles action, and Brianna Schartz and Jami McVay combined to claim third in the No. 1 doubles division.
Carly Boyd and Taylor Huslig finished fifth as Great Bend’s No. 2 doubles entry.
Great Bend travels to a McPherson Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
