SALINA — After playing 99 minutes against the Dodge City High School girls soccer team on Thursday, Great Bend went the distance against Salina South on Friday.
After 100 minutes of play, the Lady Panthers tied with Salina South 1-1.
GBHS is now 4-5-2 this season.
The Lady Cougars were the only ones to score in the first half.
“It was really windy,” GBHS Gus Prieto said. “The wind was crazy. You can’t play soccer in that. It was too hard to control the ball. They scored first in the first 15 minutes of the game.”
On a free kick, Salina South got the ball in front of the net and beat Great Bend keeper Stephanie Lomas.
“(Lomas) did very good today,” Prieto said. “We talked after the last game and she was ready to play. She did a good job.”
The Lady Panthers didn’t level the game until the final ten minutes.
Christina Hernandez struck a corner kick into the box and Kaylee Kerschner finished by burying the ball into the net.
“We played better in the second half,” Prieto said. “We had some really good chances to score and win the game, but we didn’t.”
The Lady Panthers were down four varsity players going into the game — two players were out sick and two players competing with the track and field team.
