Lady Tigers headed to Class 1A D-I state tourney

ST. JOHN — After a first-round bye, the St. John High School volleyball team captured a Class 1A Division-I sub-state championship on Saturday evening.
The Lady Tigers beat Macksville in the second round 25-18, 25-20.
St. John beat Victoria 25-16, 25-12 in the championship match.
The Lady Tigers earned a spot the state tournament, which will start on Friday at Fort Hays State University.
The fifth-seeded Lady Tigers (32-6) play Olpe at 4:30 p.m.
St. John, the defending state champion, has won three of the last four state tournaments.
Macksville, which finished its season at 10-22, beat Kinsley 25-16, 25-13 before losing to St. John.

Lady Cards qualify
for state tourney
HOISINGTON — Hoisington won a 3A sub-state championship on Saturday, earning a berth in the state tournament.
The tournament will be held start on Friday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. The championship and consolation matches will be held on Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals beat Russell (25-12, 28-26) and Lakin (25-20, 25-20) to advance to the championship match against Holcomb.
Hoisington won the first game 25-15, and pulled out a 32-30 victory in the second.
The Lady Cardinals, who were the state runners-up last season, take a 31-8 record to the state tournament.
Hoisington, the No. 4 seed, plays at 4:30 p.m. against Souteast of Saline.

Lady Eagles have
season end at 2A sub-state
STERLING — Ellinwood made it to the championship match of a 2A sub-state tournament before falling against Pratt-Skyline.
The Lady Eagles beat Little River (25-12, 25-14) and Sterling (21-25, 25-10, 25-19).
The Lady Thunderbirds clinched a berth in the state tournament with a 25-15, 25-10 victory over Ellinwood.
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 27-12 record.

Central Plains fall
in second round
LINCOLN — Central Plains finished its season with a 23-14 record, falling in the second round of a 2A sub-state tournament.
The Lady Oilers defeated Solomon 25-16, 25-12, but fell to Herington 25-20, 26-24.
Central Plains finished the season with a 23-14 record.

Lady Cougars, Lady Tigers eliminated in first round
WILSON — Pawnee Heights and Otis-Bison fell in first-round matches of a 1A D-II sub-state tournament.
Pawnee Heights lost to Sylvan-Lucas 26-24, 25-20. The Lady Tigers finished with a record of 13-19.
Otis-Bison won its first match 25-23, but Natoma rallied to win 25-22, 25-15. The Lady Cougars end their season with an 8-24 mark.

Pratt bests Larned
in 4A sub-state tournament
ULYSSES — Larned fell in the first round of a 4A sub-state tournament.
Pratt won 25-9, 25-11, dropping the Lady Indians to 13-24 on the season.
Buhler beat Pratt in the championship match.
The Lady Indians finish the season with a 13-24 record.


Attica ends Stafford’s season
in sub-state tournament 
ARGONIA — Stafford fell to Attica in the first round of a 1A D-II sub-state tournament 25-12, 25-20.
The Lady Trojans finished the season with a 16-19 record.
