SALINA — Larned High School’s Tague Conrad tied for 11th place at the Class 3A state golf meet at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Conrad finished the meet with a 76 on the par-70 course. His 11th-place finish topped his placement from last year, when he tied for 18th place with a score of 87.
“He played well for the most part,” Larned head coach Mike Seaman said. “He parred the first hole and birdied the second.
“Then he ran into some trouble. He bogeyed the next two, but he got himself out of it.”
Seaman said that Conrad’s short game both hurt and helped him.
“He had five three-putts,” Seaman said. “He had some trouble with his putter. His putter also bailed him out today too.”
Conrad went 38 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine.
“It feels pretty good, knowing that I’ve been to state both my freshman and sophomore years,” Conrad said. “I was happy with how I did, but I could have done better.”
Conrad said that he has been playing golf since he was a youth.
“I have been playing since I was eight in the youth circuit, but I’ve been playing since I was one, you know, my whole life,” Conrad said. “I want to go to college for golf. It’s kind of what I wanted to do since I was little.”
Sterling’s Michael Gellerman finished in first place, shooting a 65.
Wichita Collegiate finished in first place as a team with a total score of 297.
