DODGE CITY — An increase in intensity helped the Great Bend High School varsity tennis team finish in second place, out of eight teams, one point behind first-place Hays on Thursday at the Dodge City Invitational.

Highlighting the Panthers’ day was No. 1 singles player Morgan Francis, who posted a 4-0 record. The freshman remains undefeated with a 13-0 mark. She was the GBHS Featured Athlete in Thursday’s Tribune.

No. 2 singles player Stephanie Langer of Great Bend turned in an impressive 3-1 mark for second place, and the Panthers’ No. 1 doubles team — Brianna Schartz and Jami McVay — also had a 3-1 mark for second place. The duo’s lone blemish was a tough 8-6 loss to Hays.
