MACKSVILLE 45, PRATT 43
MACKSVILLE — The Class 2A Macksville girls stunned Class 4A Pratt 45-43 by converting 27 free throws in a non-league basketball game Friday. The Mustangs led 14-6 after one quarter before holding off Pratt’s rally.
Sophie Filbert and Lyset Ibarra each scored 14 points. Filbert converted 9 of 10 free throws and Ibarra made 11 of 16 charity tosses for Macksville (5-5).
“Tonight was a big win for the girls,” said Macksville coach Chet Skinner. “Our free throws through the course of the game was what set it apart. They played with a lot of heart and it showed down the stretch. Pratt is a very athletic team. We needed to get off to a good start and that is what we did.”
The Mustangs (5-5) play Wichita Life Prep (8-4) at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Barton Hilltop Classic at the Kirkman Center.
“This is a good motivational game moving forward,” Skinner said “We look to use this heading in to the Hilltop Classic.”
