Abby Morrison put on a power display for the Great Bend High School Lady Panthers on Monday afternoon during the opener of a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Cheney at Harms Field.
Morrison, a Fort Hays State University signee, crushed a pair of solo home runs over the left-field fence, including one that cleared the first row of cars behind the fence, an estimated 220 feet from home plate.
Morrison’s blasts powered the Lady Panthers to a 15-1 romp in the first game, where they totaled 15 hits. Jordan Haney spun a four-hit shutout in the nightcap, a 10-0 run-rule victory in five innings, where she drove in their game-ending run on a single to finish.
In the first game, Haney was 4 for 4, including a two-run double, and Abby Morrison finished 3 for 3, with three runs scored.
Abby Morrison and Emily Seiwert combined on a two-hitter in the lid-lifter. Abby Morrison left after three innings with a no-hitter, giving way to Seiwert to start the fourth.
Lexie Brack was 3 for 4 and scored three runs, and McKenna Mauler was 2 for 2 and had a pair of runs batted in.
Bonny Boultinghouse was 1 for 3 and scored three runs, and Seiwert was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
In the second game, the Lady Panthers gashed Cheney with 11 hits, scoring four runs in the first and five more in the second before Haney’s base hit in the bottom of the fifth ended it early.
Kaitlee Spray was 3 for 3 and had one RBI, and Jordan Haney and Cassidy Tutak were both 2 for 2. Tutak had a two-run double.
Stephanie Morrison, Nicole Reiter and Seiwert were all 1 for 3.
