LARNED — The tall and talented Nickerson girls pushed their record to 7-6 as they dominated the Larned Indians here Tuesday, 54-31.
With a roster featuring three girls at 6-foot, the Lady Panthers dominated the boards as they cruised to a 29-13 halftime advantage spurred by 14 Larned turnovers. Larned struggled to score in the first half and connected on only 4 of 18 shots before the break. The Panthers continually worked the ball into their taller players for close shots.
“Too many of our girls are struggling with their confidence on the offensive end,” said Larned coach Ashley Crosby. “We need to run our offense but be more aggressive in looking for scoring opportunities. We struggled to score tonight.”
Nickerson was led in scoring by 6-1 Morgan Stout with 16 points and 6-0 Sophie Mader with 14. The Panthers (7-6, 4-1 CKL) hit on 19 of 52 shots and converted 10 of 14 free throws.
Larned converted 12 of 36 field goal attempts for 33% and hit 6 of 12 free throws. The Indians (2-13, 0-5 CKL) were led in scoring by Katelyn Sanger with 17. Katie Fischer chipped in with 8. Larned will host Halstead on Friday for another CKL game.
