ST. JOHN 53, NESS CITY 42

ST. JOHN – No. 1 ranked Class 2A St. John delivered a defensive clinic to race past No. 2 ranked Ness City 53-42 in a battle of unbeaten Central Prairie League basketball teams. The Tigers outscored Ness City 24-18 in a fast-paced fourth quarter.

St. John’s Jorge Calleros scored 16 points and Chase Fisher scored 14 points. Triston Long had 11 points and nine rebounds. Defensive standout Jorge Calleros slowed down Ness City standout Chandler Stiawalt, who was held to two of 15 field goals, 10 points and four steals.

St. John (8-0, 2-0 CPL) played without all-state point guard Cole Kinnamon (sprained ankle), but the Tigers locked down Ness City defensively to 25 percent shooting. Devin Brown led Ness City (7-1, 2-1 CPL) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ness City made 13 of 52 field goals.
