Central Plains High School’s football team is off to a strong start.
The Oilers took down Victoria 42-24 last week to open the season.
Kinsley enters tonight’s game off a loss, falling 44-6 against Ness City.
Braeden Crites completed 14 of 32 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
All three of those TDs went to one receiver, Layne Bieberle. He had eight catches for 120 yards.
Larned (1-0) at La Crosse (1-0)
It took two overtime periods for Larned to subdue Hoisington in their season-opener.
The Indians defeated the Cardinals 21-20 in a Central Kansas League Western Division game.
Now Larned takes to the road to challenge a non-conference opponent, La Crosse.
The Leopards are coming off a win of their own, beating Olpe 28-8 in Week 1.
Landon Erway was the Indians’ leading rusher in Game 1, carrying the ball 22 times for 1-2 yards.
Nickerson (0-1)
at Hoisington (0-1)
Both teams will be looking for their first win tonight at Hoisington hosts Nickerson.
The Cardinals are coming off a 21-20 loss in double overtime. Nickerson is coming off a 20-0 loss against Kingman.
Hunter Hanzlick led the Cardinals with 99 rushing yards and one touchdown.
KC Stephens rushed for 56 yards and a TD, and Steffan Dolechek added 14 yards and a score.
Macksville (0-1)
at Ness City (1-0)
Macksville struggled in its season opener, falling 56-6 at halftime against Otis-Bison.
The Mustangs will look to right the ship, but they’ll have their hands full.
Ness City is entering the game after defeated Kinsley 44-6 last week.
Ellinwood (1-0)
at Victoria (0-1)
Last week was more than just a win for Ellinwood.
It was the first victory since Oct. 28, 2011, for the Eagles, a 32-22 win over Inman.
It was also their first venture into the world of eight-man football.
New season, new league, new division, and the Eagles are out ahead after beating St. John-Hudson 40-20.
Ellinwood’s next opponent, Victoria, is coming off a 42-24 loss against Central Plains.
Otis-Bison (1-0)
at St. John-Hudson (0-1)
Otis-Bison entered the 2014 season to exorcise the demons of the 2013 season.
The Cougars are off to a great start. They enacted the 45-point rule at halftime to defeat Macksville 56-6.
St. John is looking for its first win of the season, returning home after falling 40-20 on the road at Ellinwood.
Stafford (1-0) at Burrton (0-1)
Stafford is coming off a 34-26 victory over Pretty Prairie at home.
Now the Trojans try their luck on the road.
Stafford challenges Burrton, which fell to Fairfield 68-30 in Week 1.
The Trojans were led by Ethan Johnson, who rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
Parker Patterson completed five of 13 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, one to Austin Ceniti and one to Johnson.
