Oilers open district play with rout of Canton-Galva

CANTON — Quarterback Braeden Crites was involved in all but one of Central Plains High School’s six touchdowns on Friday night.
The Oilers opened Eight-Man Division-I District 5 play with a 40-12 rout of Canton-Galva.
Crites completed 8 of 15 passes for 197 yards and four touchdowns — three to Layne Bieberle, who finished with 167 yards and one to Hunter Ingham, who had 20 yards.
Crites also rushed for 107 yards and one TD.
Clark Besthorn rushed for 21 yards and one score.

St. John-Hudson 56, Kinsley 20
KINSLEY — Kinsley jumped ahead 14-0 after one quarter, but St. John rallied for a rout.
The Tigers, who improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Eight-Man D-I District 6 play, had 413 yards of total offense, including 289 rushing yards.
Juan Neri-Leon rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns.
Jorge Calleros completed 4 of 6 passes for 124 yards and three scores.
Dean Wade led receivers with 85 yards and two scores.

South Barber 64, Macksville 28
KIOWA — South Barber struck early and often against Macksville, leading 22-0 after eight minutes, and 28-0 at halftime.
Macksville’s offense, led by quarterback Tanner Tranbarger’s 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns, got things going in the second half, but couldn’t make up the difference.
Jordan Welch rushed for 83 yards and a pair of TDs for Macksville (1-4 overall, 1-1 Eight-Man D-I District 6).

Dighton 58, Otis-Bison 12
DIGHTON — Otis-Bison trailed 22-12 after the first quarter, but couldn’t muster anymore points against Dighton.
The Cougars drop to 0-5 overall, and 0-1 in Eight-Man D-II District 7.
Dighton improves to 3-2, 1-0.

Phillipsburg 33, Hoisington 6
PHILLIPSBURG — Hoisington drops to 1-4 on the season.
The Cardinals will look to pick up the pieces against the 5-0 Larned Indians in Mid-Central Activities Association action.
Phillipsburg improves to 5-0.


Sterling 48, Ellinwood 8
ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood quarterback Marc Waite threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Jenks in the final quarter to avoid getting shut out.
The Eagles (0-5) had 94 yards of total offense, while Sterling had 456.
Kaleb Schartz rushed for 43 yards, and Colton Churchill added 42 for Ellinwood.

Stafford at Caldwell
The game between Stafford and Caldwell was postponed due to lightning.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on Monday.
