HAYS – Powerhouse Salina Central ended Great Bend’s weekend with a 10-0 run-rule baseball victory in the Hays Diamond Classic.

Great Bend (7-11) lost three of four games in the Diamond Classic. The Panthers end the regular season Tuesday at Dodge City.

SALINA CENTRAL 10, GREAT BEND 0 — Salina Central’s Brogen Richardson ended Saturday’s game with a three-run double off reliever Koy Brack. Richardson also drilled a three-run homer for six RBIs. Mustang pitcher Ryan Sandborn threw a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

Panther Joey Soupiset broke up the no-hitter with a fifth-inning single. Sandborn worked out of trouble by retiring Riley Smith and Colin Hall.

Zach Farmer scored the Mustangs’ first-inning run. Ethan Speer followed Richardson’s homer with a two-run double and Luke Beatty added an RBI single.

GREAT BEND 2, WICHITA LIFE PREP 1 — Third baseman Josey Soupiset saved the Panthers with a clutch defensive fifth-inning double play Friday. He earned a save while working two innings in relief. Soupiset struck out the final batter in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Panthers scored a second-inning when Eddie Bujanda scored on Riley Smith’s groundout after an error, Townshend Kurth single and Soupiset’s sacrifice bunt.

Chance Perry singled home Calan Haberman in the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.

Panther shortstop Alex Schremmer nearly started a double play at home plate to end the sixth inning, but Ambrister scored on an error when Koy Brack’s throw hit the baserunner.

GODDARD EISENHOWER 18, GREAT BEND 1 — The good news is the Panthers didn’t get shut out in the Hays Diamond Classic.
The bad news is the Panthers lost 18-1 to The Tigers (4-13), who entered as the 16th-seed in the 5A west baseball regional rankings.
Eisenhower pitcher Collin Mackey threw five solid innings and drove home four runs. The Tigers scored eight runs in the fifth inning, keyed by Mackey’s two-run single.
The Panthers contributed six errors and yielded 13 baserunners on errors, walks and hit batters.
The Tigers led 1-0 when back-to-back errors enabled Carson Randle to score on Andy Nuessen’s first-inning groundout.
The Tigers added four second-inning runs. Mackey singled home Evan Ellinson after a triple. Mackey scored on an ill-advised throw. Randle and Wade Reynolds delivered back-to-back RBI doubles for a 5-0 lead.
Eisenhower added four runs with two out off reliever Koy Brack. Kobi Bloom delivered a two-run single and Mackey added an RBI single. Jackson Jobe scored on Brack’s wild pitch.
Panther Calan Haberman delivered two singles. Alex Schremmer doubled and Colin Hall and Koy Brack singled.
