ANDOVER — Great Bend scored 10 runs to roll past Hutchinson High 10-5 for a split of Tuesday’s opening baseball doubleheader. Andover High shut out Great Bend 2-0 in the second game.
Against Hutchinson, Jared Maneth had three hits. Jaxx Hillman delivered two hits. Brayden Smith tripled and drove in three runs. Maneth drove in two runs. Winning pitcher Anson Hall was relieved by Bryce Lytle, who recorded the final 10 outs. Hutchinson's Jordan Denison and Conor Craig hit two-run homers off Hall.

The Panthers broke the game open with a three-run second inning and a three-run fourth inning. Seven Panthers scored runs and six players drove in runs. Hillman, Anson Hall and Brady Michel each scored two runs. Hillman, Lytle and Murray each stole two bases.

Smith forced home Hall on a bases-loaded first-inning walk.  Hillman singled home Murray and Maneth singled home Michel in the second inning for a 4-2 lead. Konner Ireland singled home Lytle in the third inning for a 5-4 lead.

Smith's triple scored Michel and Maneth and Smith scored on Lytle's sacrifice in the fourth inning for an 8-4 lead. Maneth's single scored Hillman in the fifth inning for a 9-5 lead. Hall scored on Mauler's groundout in the seventh inning. 
ANDOVER 2, GREAT BEND 0 -- Andover pitcher Alex Elder limited the Panthers to three hits with three strikeouts. The Panthers left nine runners on base. Hall, Hillman and Payton Mauler delivered hits. Elder worked out of a bases-loaded first inning by retiring Brayden Smith on a fly ball. The Panthers also had runners in scoring position in the second, third and sixth innings.

Panther pitcher Brett Basye threw a solid game, yielding five hits and one earned run. The Trojans scored a pair of third-inning runs.

Great Bend (1-1) returns home April 5 to play Liberal at 4 p.m.
