WICHITA — Both of the Great Bend High School bowling teams got the 2017 season rolling Saturday at Wichita’s West Acres Bowling Center in the Wichita Carroll Bakers Bowling Tournament.
The Panther girls, last year’s Class 5A state runner-up, finished third with a five-game score of 2,229 pins. Wichita East placed first with 2,305 pins. Girls competing were Allie Brodrick, Elsi Miller, Kylynn Keeler, Kenzy Black, Jordan Vsetecka and Lexy Fox.
Vsetecka placed sixth at Class 5A state and Brodrick placed ninth at state after winning the Western Athletic Conference title. First-team All-WAC Black and second team All-WAC bowlers Miller and Keeler also return from last year’s state runner-up team.
The Great Bend boys finished fifth with 2,611 pins in five games. Boys competing were Jacob Holden, Drew Reed, Kameron Keener, Jordan Black, A.J. Roberts, and Blake Sheets. Keener returns as a Class 5A state qualifier.
There were 28 teams in both the boys and girls divisions. The top five boys and girls teams earned meet medals. Great Bend will compete in a home meet at Walnut Bowl against Dodge City at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
