Great Bend senior Brian Galindo and junior Dani Franco earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference soccer team honors. Franco scored 15 of the Panthers’ 37 goals this season. Franco earned first-team honors for the second straight year. Galindo earned second-team honors last year.
“Dani was a big part of our team,” said Great Bend coach Jesus Loera, Jr. “Brian Galindo was our fourth coach out there. He interacts with the guys and gets them going.”
Sophomore Israel Franco, Jr. earned second team All-WAC honors for the second consecutive year.
Great Bend finished with a 7-10 record, losing seven games by one goal, including 1-0 losses to 6A third-place Manhattan and 6A fourth-place Dodge City. The Panthers beat McPherson, third in Class 4A.
“We were competitive and kept games close,” Loera said. “These boys played good games against quality teams.”
Class 6A fourth-place finisher Dodge City (17-4) featured Player of the Year Eddie Del Toro and Coach of the Year Saul Hernandez. Manhattan defeated Dodge City 3-0 for third place after 6A runner-up Olathe South downed the Red Demons 3-2.
