The Great Bend girls soccer team continues to compete at a high level, but lost a pair of close Western Athletic Conference soccer games. Garden City (4-5, 2-1 WAC) visits Great Bend Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. WAC soccer game.
The Panthers (1-5, 0-3 WAC) have lost five consecutive games after opening with a 9-1 victory over Wichita Independent. Great Bend has lost four game by one goal.
HAYS 3, GREAT BEND 2 — Hays High outlasted Great Bend 3-2 in a home game April 11 at Cavanaugh Field. The Indians and Panthers traded goals.
Hays High’s Kallie Leiker scored off an assist by Maddie Keller for 1-0 lead after four minutes. Panther Keely Ireland scored in the 17th minute for a 1-1 tie.
Sydney Sulzman scored off a Keller assist in the 50th minute and Leiker scored a second goal at the 62-minute mark. Panther Kaily Griffith scored in the 65th mninute.
LIBERAL 2, GREAT BEND 0 — A penalty kick by Kayla Gokey was followed by Johaly Portillo’s goal in the 41st minute for an easy 2-0 Western Athletic Congerence victory April 14 over the Panthers.
