DODGE CITY — The Great Bend High School boys’ soccer team shut down Western Athletic Conference foe Dodge City on Tuesday evening.
The Panthers won 2-0, beating the Demons for the third time this season.
Great Bend met Dodge in the Titans Classic, winning 1-0, and it won 2-1 at home on Sept. 20.
The Panthers played into the wind in the first half, which GBHS head coach Gus Prieto said was a factor.
“It was a windy game today,” Prieto said. “We were able to score playing against the wind in the first half. We maybe had four or five chances to score in the first half, but had a lot more in the second.”
Alex Urias punched in the Panthers’ first goal on an Ivan Galindo assist.
Galindo got a goal midway through the second half, giving Great Bend a 2-0 advantage.
“This is the first time in six years that I can remember beating Dodge City here,” Prieto said. “We played good. We had a lot of chances to score. We controlled the ball well. We hit the post two or three times.”
The Panthers (9-4 overall, 4-3 WAC) travel to Wichita Heights on Thursday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
