HAYS — For the second straight day on Saturday afternoon, the Great Bend High School boys’ basketball team struggled mustering some offensive firepower.
Riley County took advantage of it during the third-place game of the Hays City Shoot-Out at Hays High.
Riley County’s Joel Garver poured in 22 points and knocked down four of the Falcons’ five 3-pointers to send the Panthers to a 61-42 setback, their second loss in as many days after opening the shoot-out on Thursday with a first-round win over Newton.
Riley County led 25-14 at halftime before the pace and scoring quickened in the second half.
Brock Ibarra, a junior wing shooter, finished with a team-high 10 points for the Panthers, who dropped to 1-2 on the young season. Ethan Henderson added eight points for GBHS, which is idle until Friday as it travels to Pratt. A week from Tuesday, Great Bend travels to Manhattan for another non-conference game before the holiday break.
