Panthers swim team places first at Hutchinson meet

HUTCHINSON — The young Great Bend High School boys’ swim team continues to get things done.
The Panthers finished in first place at a Hutchinson meet on Tuesday evening.
It is the second win in three meets for Great Bend this season, a strong way to start the season before heading into the holiday hiatus.
Great Bend finished with 369 points.
Hutchinson trailed by only 11 (358). Rose Hill finished in third place at 327 with Central Christian amassing 82.
Great Bend had two first-place performances, led by senior Justin Kuhlman.
Kuhlman won the 100-meter backstroke, turning in a time of 1:00.37.
Kuhlman also joined Corey Merten, Josh Schridde and Keaton Elliott to win the 400 freestyle relay.
The quartet finished in a time of 3:52.13.
Schridde finished in second place in the 100 butterfly (1:07.06) and third place in the 50 freestyle (25.89).
Kuhlman, Michael Raymer, Dawson Clarke and Jack Pumford claimed third in the 200 medley relay (1:58.23).
Elliott, Jack Pumford, Merten and Schridde seized third place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.03).
Raymer finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:25.97) and the 100 breaststroke (1:18.98).
Merten took third in the 500 freestyle (6:29.39).
Great Bend is back in action on Jan. 9, hosting Wichita Campus in a dual.
