JETMORE — The Macksville High School football team ran through a buzz-saw on Tuesday night, losing 70-24 to Hodgeman County in the Eight-Man Division-I state playoffs.
The Mustangs defense had no answer for Longhorns running back Evan Kreger, who rushed for 309 yards and six touchdowns on 35 carries. Kreger also returned an interception 57 yards to score a seventh touchdown.
Kreger put his name in the record books early in the season by setting a state record and tying a national record for all-purpose touchdowns scored in a single game with 10.
The Longhorns’ running game was so effective Hodgeman County quarterback Isaiah Richardson only attempted one pass, which was completed for 24 yards to Jared Barger.
Macksville struggled to get its running game started. Adam Oak rushed for 29 yards on nine carries. The Mustangs rushed for 78 yards as a team.
Macksville quarterback Seth Filbert completed 16 of 36 passes. Filbert threw two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Oak was the highest-producing Macksville receiver, catching 10 passes for 139 yards. Oak scored the Mustangs’ first two touchdowns. His first was a 47-yard reception from Filbert. His second was a 78-yard kickoff return.
Taylor Tranbarger caught a 47-yard touchdown to score the Mustangs final touchdown.
B&B blanks Quivira Heights
BAILEYVILLE — Quivira Heights had its season end in the Eight-Man Division-II state playoffs on Tuesday with a 50-0 loss to the B&B Baileyville Falcons.
The Thunderbirds finished the regular season with a 7-2 record. The Falcons went into the game with an 8-0 mark.
B&B advances to the second round game against Centre-Lost Springs on Saturday.
