LARNED — Jorge Calleros scored 21 points and Cole Kinnamon scored 15 points as No. 1 ranked Class 2A St. John steamed past Spearville 59-36 in the Gene Keady Basketball Classic semifinals. Calleros dished out five assists and Kinnamon had five steals. The Tigers (3-0) meet Larned for the championship.
The Tigers outscored the Royal Lancers in all four quarters to steadily pull away for a decisive victory. St. John forced 21 Spearville turnovers and held the Royal Lancers to 33 percent shooting. Nathan Stein led the Royal Lancers with 14 points.

Larned 59, Hoisington 52

LARNED — Larned held off Hoisington’s fourth quarter rally to beat the Cardinals 59-52 in the Gene Keady Basketball Classic. The Indians featured four players in double figures with Trevor Meyer and Evan Skelton each scoring 13 points and Jon Herter (11) and Jordan Zimmerman (10) also scoring in double figures. The Indians meet three-time defending champion St. John in the finals. The Indians have captured eight Gene Keady Classic titles, the last one coming in 2006.
The Indians built a sizable lead before Cardinal Steffan Dolechek drilled a trio of 3-point goals in the fourth quarter. Doleheck scored a career high 23 points and Christopher Wright added 15 points.
