TOPEKA — Wichita Heights High School finished with perfection, drubbing Olathe North 48-14 Saturday afternoon to win the Class 6A state football championship at Yager Stadium.
The Falcons (13-0) turned this one into runaway with their Big 3 doing the damage in the first quarter as they scored a trio of touchdowns for a 21-0 lead and never looked back.
Heights quarterback Matt Reed had an 18-yard touchdown run, followed by Dreamius Smith exploding for an 85-yard TD run and Daniel Deshazer giving the Falcons a three-touchdown lead with an 18-yard scoring reception from Reed.
Smith, who has committed to the University of Kansas, totaled four rushing touchdowns, adding 30-, 10- and 60-yard bursts to put the finishing touches on the rout.
In 5A, Blue Valley-Stilwell cut loose for 22 second-quarter points to pull away from Wichita’s Bishop Carroll to capture a 35-14 victory and the state crown.
