State qualifier leads Larned tennis

LARNED — Larned’s Dalton Penka returns with state singles and doubles experience for the Indian tennis team. Penka and teammate Kobe Kraisinger finished 0-2 at the 4A state doubles tournament last year. Penka placed third in the Central Kansas League last year. Penka qualified for state singles and went 0-2 in 2016.
They lost 6-4, 6-3 to Bonner Springs’ Fosher Hoch and Colteon Nelson and 9-4 to Baldwin’s Auggie Lange and Luke Laskowski. Trevor Coulson has varsity doubles experience.
Larned’s singles qualifier Nick Orth lost 6-1, 6-0 to Independence’s Luke Bass and 9-6 to Andover Central’s Jacob Wilson.
No. 1 doubles Andrew Bright and Logan DeMond and No. 2 doubles Trevor Coulson and Britton Herrman will start the season.
Larned tennis coach Mark Lessard is starting his third season as head boys coach after serving three years as an assistant coach.
