Tigers beat Larned; remain undefeated

LARNED — Spencer Nusser led St. John-Hudson High School’s boys’ basketball team with 22 points during their 10th win of the season, a 67-40 romp past Larned.
The Tigers, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A Division-I in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, outscored Larned 17-6 in the second quarter to take a commanding 32-18 lead into intermission on Friday night.
Zuriel Reyes added 18 points for St. John.
Larned was led by Brayden Smith, who scored 13 points.

VICTORIA — Trailing by only a few points throughout the game, Central Plains let Victoria slip away in the fourth quarter.
Layne Bieberle led the Oilers with 12 points, and Konner Hickel added 11.
The Oilers (6-5) are back in action on Tuesday night at 6:30 against Medicine Lodge at St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic.

LA CROSSE — Otis-Bison dropped to 3-7 after its loss to La Crosse.
The Cougars are on a three-game losing streak since coming back from the holiday break.
Otis-Bison is the No. 4 seed at the Hoisington Winter Jam, and challenges No. 5-seeded Ellinwood on Monday night at 8:15.

STAFFORD — Stafford falls to 1-5 overall on the season.
The Trojans compete in Cunningham’s Boys’ 54 Classic on Tuesday night at 5 against Kinsley.

LARNED — No. 3-ranked St. John ran away with the game from the outset.
The Lady Tigers led 14-6 after one quarter.
Teresa Christie led St. John with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds.
Lady Tigers guard Jamie Waters finished with 18 points and nine assists.
Bailey Schartz led the Lady Indians with seven points. Roxy Foster grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds for Larned.

With time running out, Otis-Bison missed a shot instead of stalling to run the clock down.
La Crosse missed their shot at the buzzer as the Lady Cougars (3-6) escaped with a victory.
Annie Kraisinger and Hannah Bannister scored 12 points apiece to lead Otis-Bison.
Demi Bartonek and Kim Pechanec each added nine points.

HUTCHINSON — Stafford dropped to 0-6 overall with a road loss.
The Lady Trojans are off until Jan. 22, when they host Wichita Home School.
