WAMEGO — Thompson Gymnastics of Great Bend recently competed in the AAU Missouri Valley Championships.
The competition, held April 29-May 1 at CATTS Gymnastics, the last of the season, was by far their best meet.
“The competition is at its best at districts,” Thompson Gymnastics head coach Lisa Thompson said. “Over 630 girls competed throughout the weekend in various levels and age groups.
“The girls performed very well, many giving their best effort.”
The local team took 13 girls to the district championships, turning in some standout performances.
Leading the squad was Camryn Dunekack, Intermediate Optional, and Kaily Griffith, level 5 — both of whom captured honors as All Around State Gymnastics Champions.
Other results in the All Around competition included Krystal Comean (level 6, second place); Tori Benavidez (level 5, third place), Emily Hammon (level 5, fifth place) and Grace Schreiber (level 3, fifth place).
“The girls have been practicing since last May in preparation for this competition,” Thompson said. “They have put in many hours. I could not be any prouder with their efforts.
“This sport is all about how you get back up after you fall. This group of girls have done a phenomenal job showing what it takes to succeed in sports and life.”
