HESSTON — Central Kansas League power Hesston edged past Great Bend, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21 Tuesday to complete a three-match sweep after also beating Conway Springs and the Wichita Defenders.
The Swathers and Panthers exchanged winners at the net all night long. The Panthers' Valarie Luna and McKenzie Premer led the way with Rylie Duvall, Taryn Warren and Saide Spray chipping in winners.
Panther coach Shelly Duvall dug deep into her bench by also playing Macy Nachtigal, Brooke McReynolds, Lauryn Davis, Kyndall Blessing, Alayna Irwin and Paige Thexton, giving everyone a chance to shine.
But in the end, Hesston's hard-hitting Kendal Brueggen, Katie Kueker, Sophia Becker and Harley Ferralez delivered the final answer. The Swathers kept the Panthers off balance with superior serving. Brueggen drilled three consecutive winners for a 22-18 lead. Panthers' Duvall and Davis hit winners for a 24-21 lead until Becker closed it out.
Great Bend defeated Conway Springs, 25-11, 25-16 and the Wichita Defenders, 25-16, 25-8 to finish a 2-1 night.
