WICHITA SUNRISE 59, LARNED 30

ST. JOHN – Wichita Sunrise Academy showed they didn't need a full roster to play good basketball here Tuesday evening as they sprinted past the Larned Lady Indians 59-30. Sunrise had only six players present out of a roster of twelve due to illness and injury.

The lightning- quick Lady Buffaloes raced to a 15-6 first quarter lead and then traded baskets with Larned in the second quarter for a halftime score of 30-21. Then, in the third quarter, the quickness of guards Kaitlyn Edwards and Samiyah Ellis started paying dividends as they forced turnovers and converted them into easy baskets as Sunrise extended their lead to 46-28.

Larned had 24 turnovers and Sunrise 11, earning 13 extra possessions. It paid dividends for the Buffaloes (11-2).

Freshman sensation Ellis, a 5-6 speedster, keyed the Sunrise offense and scored 22 points when she wasn't dishing out assists. Sharpshooting guard Edwards added 15 points and Jagoda Zimny chipped in with 12. The Buffaloes made 24 of 53 field goal attempts for 45% and made five 3-point baskets. They were 6 of 10 from the charity stripe.

Larned (1-10) converted 12 of 47 field goal attempts and 4 of 12 free throw tries. The Indians enjoyed success in the paint as Karley Lemuz scored nine points and Akielah Collins seven. Kiana Meyer posted 5 points.
