HOISINGTON – Hoisington all-state tailback Wyatt Pedigo scored five touchdowns and quarterback Mason Haxton accounted for three scores in a 48-7 rout over Lakin in the 2A football playoffs.

Pedigo scored on runs of 9, 50 and 71 yards while rushing for 185 yards. Haxton scored on a 65-yard touchdown dash and competed 35- and 53-yard touchdown strikes to Pedigo. The Cardinals gained 470 yards on 33 offensive plays.

No. 1 ranked Hoisington (10-0) plays Garden Plain (10-0) at home in next week’s 2A quarterfinal game.

Pedigo has gained 2,008 yards with 31 rushing touchdowns with 4,827 career yards and 68 rushing touchdowns.

“Wyatt Pedigo touched the football three consecutive times and scored three touchdowns – that was pretty unbelievable,” said Hoisington coach Zac Baird. “We’ve got the best team speed we’ve had. We hit big plays and featured some pretty good individual performances.”

Quarterback Haxton rushed for 106 yards. He’s completed 14 touchdown passes.

Hoisington led 48-0, which led to a running clock in the third period. Pedigo and Jacob Specht each accounted for 10 tackles.

“We played well defensively,” Baird said. “We played well at all levels. We filled gaps and got off blocks.”
