TORONTO — Tyler Skaggs pitched into the ninth inning and retired 21 straight batters, leading the Los Angeles Angels over the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 Saturday.
Rookie C.J. Cron hit his first major league homer and Chris Iannetta added a two-run shot as Angels won their sixth in a row at Toronto dating to 2012.
Angels bench coach Dino Ebel ran the team for the second straight day while manager Mike Scioscia attended his daughter’s college graduation. Scioscia is due to return Sunday.
Skaggs (3-1) gave up two earned runs and four hits, leaving after Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera started the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles.
Skaggs retired Dioner Navarro on a fly ball to end the first inning and didn’t permit another runner until the eighth.
Joe Smith gave up an RBI single to Jose Bautista in the ninth, then got Edwin Encarnacion to ground into a forceout. Navarro made it 5-3 with an RBI single before Smith got pinch-hitter Adam Lind to ground into a double play for his fourth save in six chances.
Making his second start since moving from the bullpen into the rotation last Monday, J.A. Happ (1-1) lasted just 2 1-3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits.

TIGERS 9, TWINS 3
DETROIT — Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer that capped a six-run second inning, sending Max Scherzer and Detroit past Minnesota.
On a day when the Tigers honored former manager Jim Leyland, they won with a familiar formula they used to reach the playoffs under him: Power by Cabrera, the two-time AL MVP, and pitching by Scherzer, the reigning Cy Young Award winner.
Cabrera connected for his fifth homer, tagging Kyle Gibson (3-3). Victor Martinez also homered, giving him eight this season and four in the last six games.
Scherzer (5-1) wasn’t sharp yet still won, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out six — his team-record streak of fanning at least seven in seven starts to begin a season ended.

WHITE SOX 3
CHICAGO — Wade Miley pitched seven strong innings, Cody Ross had three hits and Arizona beat Chicago.
Miley (3-3) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six and not allowing a walk. His only mistake came on an 0-1 pitch in the fifth inning that Paul Konerko hit over the left-field fence for a two-run home run.
Former White Sox closer Addison Reed flirted with disaster in his first meeting against his former team before getting his 11th save in 12 chances. Reed, who was traded to the Diamondbacks from the White Sox in the offseason, gave up a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Conor Gillaspie, who ended up scoring on Alexei Ramirez’s two-out single. Ramirez stole second but was stranded after Reed got Konerko to bounce out to second.
The White Sox lost for just the second time in seven games.
White Sox starter Jose Quintana (1-3) went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

RAYS 7, INDIANS 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Erik Bedard gave up one hit in six shutout innings, James Loney had three hits and drove in two runs, and Tampa Bay broke a four-game skid with a victory over Cleveland.
Winning his second straight start after 15 consecutive starts without a win, Bedard gave up a double to Ryan Raburn in the second inning, Cleveland’s only hit until Lonnie Chisenhall led off the ninth with a single off Grant Balfour.
Juan Carlos Oviedo took over in the seventh for Bedard (2-1) and pitched two perfect innings.
Zach McAllister (3-3) gave up eight hits and five runs in 4 1-3 innings for the Indians, who had won four straight.
McAllister is winless in four starts since winning three straight.
