CLEVELAND (AP) — Ervin Santana pitched the first no-hitter for the Los Angeles Angels in nearly 27 years, striking out 10 and leading them past the Cleveland Indians 3-1 Wednesday.
Santana allowed only two runners — there was an error on the leadoff batter in the first inning and a walk in the eighth.
Santana was in control the whole way while throwing the Angels' first solo no-hitter since Mike Witt pitched a perfect game on Sept. 30, 1984. Angels pitchers Mark Langston (seven innings) and Mike Witt (two) combined on a no-hitter on April 11, 1990, in a 1-0 win against Seattle.
