IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery says Gabe Olaseni (oh-lah-SEHN’-ee), a 6-foot-10, 225-pound center from Kansas, has signed a national letter of intent with the Hawkeyes.
Olaseni, a native of London, played at Wichita's Sunrise Christian Academy, last season, where he averaged 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 28 games as a senior.
McCaffery says Tuesday that Olaseni can run the floor and block shots, and he will impact Iowa’s style of play.
Olaseni helped lead Sunrise Christian Academy to the National Association of Christian Athletes, or NACA, Division I national title. He was the defensive MVP of the national tournament.
Olaseni will join four other recruits on the 2011-12 Iowa roster.
