MANHATTAN — With just two weeks left before the 2011 football season opener, Kansas State fans gathered on the playing field of Bill Snyder Family Stadium to meet their favorite Wildcats as they held their annual Football Kickoff on Saturday.
The evening’s activities, which included an open practice and autograph session, wrapped up the Wildcats’ fall training camp as classes begin on Monday.
Kansas State’s opener is on Saturday, Sept. 3 as the Wildcats host Eastern Kentucky.
Head coach Bill Snyder received a warm introduction from the 1,000-plus fans in attendance, and following his message to the crowd, he introduced the 2011 senior class, coaching staff and had each captain address the crowd.
Snyder then took a seat at the 50-yard line and signed autographs until the last fan was remaining.
“As I have said many times, our entire football program appreciates each and every one of our fans and what they mean to our football program, athletics department and Kansas State University,” Snyder said. “Our fans, in my time here, have been truly special in so many ways. Kansas State University is a very unique place, and I appreciate so very much the support and passion of the people here that make it so special.”
Both those inside and outside of the program are looking forward to the Sept. 3 season opener, including quarterback Collin Klein.
“We all appreciate the support that our fans have shown throughout this offseason and through fall camp,” Klein said. “So many people are instrumental in making this football program run smoothly, and I appreciate each and every one of those individuals. We are all working extremely hard and are looking forward to a great season, beginning September 3 against Eastern Kentucky.”
Last season, the Wildcats drew a home-opening record crowd of 51,059 for the UCLA game and are looking for their third straight season-opening sellout crowd.
