MANHATTAN, Kan.— K-State Track and Field finishes up its 2015 outdoor campaign with the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Eugene, Oregon. Set to run from June 10-13 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field, the Wildcats enter competition with 14 total entries (10 for the women, four for the men).

Day one action is set to kick off at 1 p.m. CT with the women’s heptathlon 100-meter hurdles and continue through the weekend, finishing up on Saturday, June 13. This season’s schedule will be the first to break the men’s and women’s competition -- not including the multis -- into separate days, as the men will compete solely on days one and three, while the women’s programs will square off on days two and four. Along with live results, fans can also follow the action throughout the week on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

Further information, including a complete programming guide and meet schedule, can be found by visiting the Championships Central page at www.ustfccca.org.

What to Watch For -- Women

The women enter as one of only 10 programs in the country to have 10 or more entries competing in Eugene this week. Ranked No. 10 in the final edition of the USTFCCCA Team Rankings, K-State looks primed to make a run at its first top-10 finish at outdoors since 2002. Leading the charge for the Wildcats will be Akela Jones, who will compete individually in the high jump and heptathlon, as well as potentially run a leg on the 4x400-meter relay squad.

The high jump group in particular will play a crucial role in racking up points for the Wildcats, with Alyx Treasure, Kim Williamson and Jones all finishing the season ranked in the Division I top-15. K-State’s three entries match the Georgia women for the most in the event this week as well. In the throws, Sara Savatovic and Dani Winters will both look to continue strong outdoor campaigns. Big 12 champions in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively, Savatovic and Winters have also set the school records in their respective events and are ranked top-five nationally.

Rounding out the entries for the Wildcat women are Tia’ Gamble, Alyssa Kelly, A’Keyla Mitchell and the women’s 4x400. Gamble and Mitchell will compete individually in the 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively, as well as run legs on a 4x400 squad that is fresh off shattering the school record in the West Preliminaries. Gamble’s qualification in the hurdles will mark her first appearance at NCAAs in an individual event, while Mitchell will look to add 200m first team All-American honors outdoors to go along with her first team nod earned at Indoors in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In the triple jump, Kelly will be making her first career appearance at NCAAs. A junior from Overland Park, Kansas, Kelly leapt a personal best 12.81m/42-00.50 in the event to qualify at West Prelims.

What to Watch For -- Men

Like the women, the K-State men finished in the national top-25, ranking No. 23 in the country heading into Eugene. They will enter competition with one entry on the track and three in the field. In the high jump, the Wildcats double up with the freshmen duo of Christoff Bryan and Nate Gipson, while Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye will make his first career NCAA appearance individually in the long jump. The latter Wildcat is fresh off being named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year and finished the season ranked No. 5 in Division I. Also the Big 12 champion in the long jump, Otuonye has set a new personal best and broken his already held Turks and Caicos national record this season.

On the track, freshmen Terrell Smith competes in the 200-meter dash. A native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Smith will be one of only three freshmen sprinters competing in the event on the men’s side. He set the school record in the event en route to qualifying at NCAA West Prelims.
