Central Plains High School play slated for Thursday, Friday
Claflin

CLAFLIN — Students at Central Plains High School are prepping for a trip back in time as they present “It Happened on Route 66,” by Todd Wallinger, Thursday and Friday.

The plot centers on Sally, a celebrity-obsessed waitress at an Arizona diner in 1955, who is waiting on the glamourous wedding of movie star Lovey Lamour to crooner Johny Jerome.

Sally is floored when none other than the star herself walks into the diner, who was heading east on Route 66 when her Ferrari broke down. She’s being chased by the celebrity press, so she needs a place to hide out.

Sally’s solution is to hide the star in plain sight by posing as a waitress — but it’s harder than it looks.

The play is directed by social studies instructor Susan Barker.

The curtain rises both evenings at 7:30 p.m. both nights. On Friday, the CPHS girls’ basketball team is hosting an ice cream social along with the event.
