Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Next week is jam-packed with events, so let’s get started with what we have going on in our Children’s department. Monday we are offering two events. First at 10:30 a.m. is LEGO Mania. Kiddos will have the chance to spend the morning engineering, creating, and exploring with LEGO challenges and games. Later at 3:30 p.m. we will be watching a LEGO superhero movie. In honor of fire prevention month, the Great Bend Fire Department will be here during our Tuesday Story Time to teach us about fire safety. Hear stories about firemen and get the chance to meet some in person!

Thursday we have the next installment of our new event series, Tween Scene, at 4 p.m. We encourage patrons in grades 4-6 who feel too old for story time but are too young for the Teen Spot to come and experience a taste of teen programming. This month join us for Casual Game Day. Choose your fighter and face off in some friendly matches in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

For teens grades 6-12, the week kicks off with a Murder Mystery. A tragic cover-up has been discovered at the library! You’ll need to carefully inspect the crime scene and evidence to piece the clues together and determine the culprit. Detectives should report to the library by 4 p.m. Monday to begin the investigation. At the end of the week, join us for October’s Casual Game Friday at 3:30 p.m. Gather ‘round and play loads of party games in Mario Party Superstars, or visit virtual attractions based on some of your favorite franchises in Nintendoland.

Saturday, Oct. 8, is the last day to sign up for our “Colors of Fall” TeenBookCrate. We are offering a limited number of boxes, so reserve yours by registering on our website at greatbendpl.info/teens.

Next week is movie week for adults, starting with our October meeting of the Great Bend Silver Screen Society Thursday night at 7 p.m. This month we’re watching something fitting for the spooky season. The film was produced by famed director Guillermo del Toro and was the debut film for director J. A. Bayona, who has gone on to direct such films as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and A Monster Calls. It is sure to spark a good discussion as well as deliver some spine-tingling chills. On Friday at 7 p.m. we have our Adults’ Night Out Movie, when we will be showing another spooky film that is sure to be a ghost-busting good time. For those attending the movies, the north entrance will be unlocked from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. both evenings. If you would like more information on any of the movies mentioned in this article, please check out our website for more information.
