‘No issue’ from hanging attempt at BC jail
on the record

An inmate at the Barton County Detention Center remains in custody following an attempt at suicide by hanging late Thursday evening.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, who was officially out of the office until Monday, confirmed the attempt when contacted Friday morning. According to the activity log, a hanging attempt was reported at 9:41 p.m. Sheriff Bellendir said that the inmate was discovered by officers and was brought down safely. Great Bend Emergency Medical Service was called in for an examination, but there was no apparent injury, Bellendir noted.

“It’s not that uncommon,” the sheriff said. “There was no issue. He’s back in jail.”
