Clayton Lyle Rose (Clay)

Clayton Lyle Rose (Clay), passed away on May 28, 2023, at the age of 33, in Hays, Kan. He was born on Aug. 15, 1989, in Great Bend, Kan., to Kevin and Michelle (Brungardt) Rose. Despite being born with Muscular Dystrophy and a short life expectancy, Clay defied all odds and lived an extra 30 courageous years. 

Clay was a man of many names, including “Chubs,” “Bubba,” “ClayMondo,” “Claybee,” “The Little General,” “The Bulldozer,” and most importantly, “Uncle Clay.” He was loved and adored by many, and he never met a stranger. Clay was known for his outgoing personality and his ability to call it as he saw it. He had a great sense of humor and brought joy and life to everyone he met. 

Clay was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to his Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and Kansas Jayhawks. He also enjoyed hunting, watching YouTube videos and playing X-Box with his best friend, Josh McAllister. He graduated from Great Bend High School and Barton Community College. 

Clay is survived by his father and mother, Kevin and Michelle Rose of Great Bend; two sisters, Sarah Rose of Great Bend, and Savannah Rose of Dallas, Texas; his four “Helga’s” (nieces), Kayli Shull, Kynli Shull, Kortny Shull, and Kamry Shull all of Great Bend; his grandmother, Janice Rose  and grandparents, Lionel “Bud” and Linda Brungardt all of Great Bend; his aunts and uncles, Kevin and Cindy Brungardt of Cunningham, Chris and Ron Gilley of Medicine Lodge, Donelle Brungardt of Great Bend, Mark Brungardt of Medicine Lodge, Karen and Steve Thier of Plano, Texas, and Keith and Kathryn Rose of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and many loving cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer Rose; a grandmother, Dolores Brungardt; and great grandparents, Sylvester and Betty Brungardt, Mike and Catherine Boxler and Edwin and Ruth Fischer. 

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and Vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery North. Memorials have been designated to Ronald McDonald House of Wichita or Sunflower Diversified Services of Great Bend, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
