James Lawrence Sickbert

James Lawrence Sickbert was born Jan. 27, 1935 in Wichita, Kan. to Mary Elizabeth Hendrickson Sickbert and Rueben Daniel Gustav Sickbert and passed on to the Lord June 28, 2022 in Wichita at the age of 87. 

He married Connie Lois Streeter Sickbert Jan. 22, 1955 and became a loving father to three children. 

During their marriage, the couple lived in Syracuse, Kan., Wichita, Lawton, Okla., Newton, Kan., Great Bend, Kan., Sterling, Colo., Sedgwick, Kan., Schofield, Wisc., and Schaumburg, Ill., respectively before settling in Great Bend where they became active community members. 

James joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1957 after a year of college and was honorably discharged in 1959. 

After the Army, he held various positions including at a feedlot and with Rainbow Bread before returning to college on the GI Bill, attending Wichita State University to study finance. 

James began his career at Davis Manufacturing/J. I. Case in Wichita and moved on to Drott in Wausau, Wisc.; Singer in Schiller Park, Ill. and Essex in Great Bend, Kan. where he retired as CFO. 

He enjoyed camping, traveling and table games with his wife and family and was an active member of the school and church boards as well as the American Legion. 

Survived by sister, Cheryl Sickbert O’Konek; sister-in-law, Jan Torline Sickbert; sons, Eric Sickbert, Marc (Joyce) Sickbert; and daughter, Vickie Sickbert (David) Munro; grandchildren, Sterling Cosper, Abby Sickbert, Melissa Yockel (Gary) Mares, Jerry (Cheri) Yockel; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceded by wife, Connie Lois Streeter Sickbert; brothers, Wallace, Gary Sickbert; and sister, Patricia Sickbert Arnold; parents, Rueben Daniel Gustav Sickbert and Mary Elizabeth Hendrickson Sickbert.

The celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Metro Baptist East in Wichita, Kan. Inurnment will follow at Old Mission Mausoleum. A memorial has been established with: Myeloma Foundation, 4400 Coldwater Canyon Ave., Ste. 300, Studio City, CA 91604.
