Cardinal softball sweeps Larned Indians

HOISINGTON — Hoisington's softball team escaped with a wild 6-5 victory in the opener before roaring past Larned 10-1 in Tuesday's Central Kansas League softball doubleheader. Hoisington (18-6, 13-5 CKL) plays Smoky Valley (6-14) in Monday's Hoisington regional. Larned (12-10, 8-10 CKL) is projected to play Mulvane (15-9) in next week's 4A McPherson regional.

HOISINGTON 6, LARNED 5 (G1) — Larned nearly rallied from a 6-0 deficit in a wild game filled with walks and errors.

Tricia Schremmer and Kylie Kempke delivered RBI singles to score Jordyn Boxberger and Mollie Steiner after back-to-back first-inning walks. Ellie Crawford singled in Boxberger. Crawford, Schremmer and Kempke all scored when Larned committed back-to-back errors for three unearned runs.

Larned's Kenzie Reinert scored when Eowyn Hedding reached base on a strikeout. Madison Reinert's 3-run homer capped 4-unearned runs. Hedding scored on a seventh-inning error for a 5-4 score.

Boxberger (9-4) struck out nine batters and retired Karley Lemuz and Camryn Ettleman to strand the tying runner on base.

HOISINGTON 10, LARNED 1 (G2) — Hoisington scored 10 runs in the first three innings off Larned pitcher Madison Wood (8-7). Kempke drove in three runs. Carly Delzeit and Crawford each drove in two runs. Boxberger and Schremmer each added an RBI.
