HOISINGTON – Hoisington pitchers Mason Martin and Preston Roat delivered solid performances to spark the Cardinals past Hillsboro 13-3 and 6-2 in Friday’s Central Kansas league baseball doubleheader. The Cardinals improve to 6-8, 6-6 CKL and drop Hillsboro to 1-11, 1-11 CKL.

CARDINALS 13, HILLSBORO 3 (G1) – Hoisington’s 12-run fifth inning turned a 3-1 deficit into a run-rule victory. Mason Martin delivered a 2-run single and game-ending RBI single. Tony Moore and Lane French hit RBI singles and French knocked home a run with a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals drew six walks and took advantage of two Hillsboro errors.

Martin (2-2) worked 42/3 innings with six strikeouts.

Marcus Ingram and Moore each drove home two runs. Rhen Galla and Gratton Dalton drove home runs. Hillsboro reliever Nash Dickinson yielded eight runs.

CARDINALS 6, HILLSBORO 2 (G2) – Hoisington pitcher Preston Roat (2-1) struck out six batters in a nifty 89-pitch outing.

French’s 2-run triple scored Moore and Ingram in a 3-run fifth inning. Carson Mason scored on Moore’s double. Rhen Galla scored the Cardinals’ first run on a groundout. Mason and Galla scored on a sixth-inning error for two insurance runs.
