HOISINGTON — Hoisington pitcher Preston Roat achieved an unlikely feat by outperforming teammate Tony Moore, who threw a 2-hit shutout against Smoky Valley.
Roat (4-1) threw a 30-pitch perfect game by retiring nine Viking batters in a 18-0 shutout.
Moore (3-1) struck out eight batters in a 2-hit shutout for a 10-0 Central Kansas League baseball rout over Smoky Valley.
CARDINALS 10, VIKINGS 0 (G1) —Moore's 5-inning gem featured 68 pitches two singles and one walk. Moore was on fire at the plate, driving home three runs with a double and two singles.
Lane French tripled home a run. Cardinals Mason Martin, Brody Crites and Carson Mason drove in runs. In a 5-run fifth inning, Crites and French scored on wild pitches, Mason singled in Gratton Dalton and Moore's game-ending single scored Mason and Rhen Galla.
CARDINALS 18, VIKINGS 0 (G2) — Roat stayed red hot on the mound with three groundouts, three fly balls and three strikeouts.
The Cardinals batted an incredible 24 batters in a school record 18-run first inning.
Dalton and Martin each drove in three runs. Marcus Ingram and Kaidenn Chambers each chipped in two runs batted in for the Cardinals (11-9, 9-7 CKL).
