Nachtigal, record relay sparks Panthers

Great Bend's girls capture first place at Topeka's Camien Welch Track Invitational.

TOPEKA — Great Bend javelin thrower Macy Nachtigal threw a career best 141-4 to capture first place in Monday's Topeka Camien Welch Track Invitational.

Great Bend's runner-up 3,200-meter relay (9:39.52) broke a school record with the quartet of Eliana Beckham, Addy Nicholson, Kate Welcher and Reese Bullard.

Sadie Spray cleared 5-2 in the high jump and ran 48.56 to earn a pair of runner-up medals.

Beckham finished runner-up in the 800 meters with a career-best time (2:22.0).

5A Great Bend earned a sixth-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay (4:10.47) to edge 6A Manhattan 76-75 for the team title.

Panther Cooper Ohnmacht continues to excel with a personal best long jump (22-01/2) to place fifth and a fourth in the triple jump (43-81/2).
